Terms of service

These terms apply to every order placed with Jarl ("we", "us"), a sole proprietorship based in Malmö, Sweden. By placing an order you accept them. Swedish law applies; nothing here limits the rights you have as a consumer under EU or UK law.

1. What you are buying

A personalised portrait created from a photo you upload, delivered as a printed poster, mug, phone case or as a digital file. The portrait is painted by an AI image model in the style you choose and shown to you on the page before you pay. What you approve is what gets printed.

2. Your photo

You confirm that you have the right to use the photo you upload and, where it shows another person, that they consent to it being used for a portrait. Do not upload photos of people who have not agreed, photos of children who are not your own, or images you do not own. We may refuse or cancel orders that break this rule.

Your photo is sent once, over an encrypted connection, to our image engine to create the portrait and is not stored by us afterwards. The finished portrait is kept for 30 days, or for 6 months if you order, so we can reprint it if something goes wrong. See our Privacy Policy for details.

3. Prices and payment

Prices are shown in Swedish kronor including VAT unless your market shows another currency. Payment is taken at checkout through Shopify Payments. Automatic discounts and discount codes are applied at checkout; only one code can be used per order.

4. Production and delivery

Items are printed to order by our production partner at the facility closest to you, normally within 1–2 working days, and shipped with tracking. Delivery estimates on the site are estimates, not guarantees, except for the Christmas order deadline we publish each year. Digital files are delivered by download link after payment.

5. Right of withdrawal

Because every item is personalised to your photo, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply once production has started (Directive 2011/83/EU art. 16(c); UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 reg. 28). You can cancel free of charge within one hour of ordering if production has not started. Digital files cannot be returned once downloaded.

6. Faults and complaints

If an item arrives damaged, misprinted or with a defect, tell us within 14 days with a photo and we reprint and reship for free or refund you. Your statutory rights under the Swedish Consumer Sales Act (konsumentköplagen) and equivalent EU/UK law are not affected.

7. Content and conduct

Portraits are made for personal use and as gifts. You may share your own portrait anywhere you like. You may not use the service to create portraits that are unlawful, defamatory, or that impersonate a real person without their consent.

8. Liability

We are liable for the goods you ordered and for defects in them as required by law. We are not liable for delays caused by carriers, customs or force majeure beyond our control, or for indirect losses, to the extent the law allows.

9. Disputes

If we cannot resolve a complaint together you can turn to the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, arn.se) or the EU online dispute resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr).
